As we discussed in Push Technologies, the content comes to our desktop via channels. Channels serve as content provider for push technology. Frequently updated content automatically delivered. In order to get dynamic content of a web page which uses channels, we should choose the channel first. Then, the content provider channel needs a software which is running on our computers. After we downloaded this automatic content browser, the next step is to determine delivery schedule to update the page frequently. Please note that, this is nonsense when the user is intermittently connected via dial-up connections. Channel Definition Format is a specification that permits a web publisher to offer frequently updated collections of information, or channels from any web server for automatic delivery to compatible receiver programs on PCs or other computers. A channel is defined
by a set of rules so that automatic content provider software can retrieve
the latest information for you. Automatic means that the user needs to
choose the channel once and scheduled deliveries of information no more
needs user intervention.
