Abstract: Graph visualization is an effective method for analyzing and understanding large, complex datasets. However, as the amount of data increases, managing the corresponding graphs becomes more difficult, and it can be challenging to focus on the relevant information. To address these challenges, several complexity management techniques have been developed, such as filtering, hiding, and collapsing nodes or edges. However, these techniques are typically developed independently and lead to inconsistencies and false results when applied in a certain order. Furthermore, these techniques cause drastic changes in the graph's layout, confusing the user and breaking their mental map. To address these issues, we propose a complexity management framework for the effective analysis of big relational data represented as graphs by unifying various complexity management techniques to work seamlessly in cooperation with the proper adjustment of the graph layout after each complexity management operation to protect the user's mental map. By integrating these techniques into a unified framework, users can effectively analyze large, complex datasets without being overwhelmed by the graph's complexity.
