Analysis and Detection of Misinformation Spread on Social Media

Abstract: Misinformation spread in online social networks is an urgent-to-solve problem with harmful consequences that threaten human health, public safety, the economy, and so on. We construct a dataset of ~5.2k English and ~5k Turkish tweets. The dataset includes tweets with misinformation labels covering up-to-date topics, such as COVID-19, Refugees, and the recent Russia-Ukraine War. The features of the dataset and temporal distribution of the tweets of each topic are investigated. We conduct NLP baseline models to detect veracity. I will present the current status of our research together with our future work.
