Automating Motion Retargetting by Skeleton Based Matching
Tolga Dýþpýnar
Retargeting motion is the problem of adapting an animated motion from one character to another. The objective of this research area is to develop methods for reusing existing motion data of source character to animate different characters while preserving many of the desirable properties of the original motion as possible. However this process requires human input and user intervention in order to associate target model with the source model.Users of such systems has to first set up a joint mapping file to link skeletal system of the target model with the motion data of source model. This step is crucial for retargeting motion and it is commonly done by hand.In the proposed thesis work, we intend to prevent user intervention in retargerting process by providing automatic skeleton matching between source and target models.
