Abstract: This BBC video looks at the challenges facing engineers trying to construct robots which can operate in the real world. Sensing and integrating data from a real environment is an extremely difficult task because of its noisy, incomplete and highly variable nature. Example robotic systems from several research labs are shown, including those of Oxford Universities group headed by Dr. Hugh Durant-Whyte. (who you may recall visited us a few years ago.)
