Language is the most distinctive single attribute of our species. Although there are many forms of non-verbal thought, most of our conscious thinking is seemingly done in language. Without it there would be no culture, no science, no engineering. Clearly, the world and our senses shape our language and language shapes our thoughts. But does our language also shape our perception of the world? That is, might having particular words in a language affect the concepts we acquire.
