Join in the Fun

Are you a computer geek? If you think you know a bit about computers, computer science and programming, then we cordially invite you to join in the fun at the 3rd annual Bilkent Programming Contest. The event, on Saturday May 24th, will see teams (of up to three people) competing against each other, for fun, prizes and, of course, the honour of winning.

This year, the contest will comprise two rounds. In the first, teams will be asked to solve a number of programming problems on the computer. The top four teams will then be invited to participate in the second round. This will be a TV-style quiz (where even the audience can win) and include technical and trivia questions on all aspects of computing. So, limber up those fingers and minds, brush up on your algorithms and check out the latest computer jargon.

There are only a limited number of places and applications will be strictly first come, first served. Last year saw teams from Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara, so register now to avoid disappointment.

If you are interested in taking part in this years contest please send an email to david@bilkent.edu.tr, including the names of your team members, an email address where we can contact you, and a postal address. If you are coming from outside Ankara, please also indicate whether you will require accomodation (no guarentees, but we will do our best to arrange somewhere to stay.)

 

Our programme begins at 9:30 on Saturday morning. There will be a short talk to welcome contestants and to explain the organisation, rules and regulations. The formal programming competition will begin at 10:00 and last for three hours. Judging will take place while contestants eat and refresh themselves and the results will be announced just prior to the start of the second round at 15:30. Only the top four teams from the first round will be invited to take part in the second round TV-style trivia quiz. We hope that the other contestants and interested parties will watch the quiz, and even join in! Following completion of the second round there will be a short prize-giving ceremony and reception (soft drinks and cookies!)
