Unravelling the mysteries Understanding how the human mind works is both intellectually fascinating and extremely challenging! Practical benefits may include not just cleverer machines, but better medical care & education. I believe the problems in this field are fundamentally philosophical & thus concentrate on questions related to meaning, understanding, language and truth. Insights based on knowledge representation using inscriptors, seem to offer a uniquely coherent and consistent foundation for this research. Interested students (who should have a philosophical bent and good english) are needed to help extend this work in several directions. |

Information
Retrieval & The Internet has brought new and exciting opportunities to many well established disciplines & perhaps no more so than IR & education. I have several interesting projects in these areas, including development of the notion of "expertise" to improve existing recommender systems, and the design, implementation and testing of a research aid intended to fill an important gap between web browsers and word processors! Exciting opportunities also exist for producing distance learning material for Java (based on JRobo) and for collaborative projects with the Turkish Ministry of Education. |
